Product Description

Introduction:
801-D rheological additive is a high-performance, self-activating organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It serves as a pivotal rheological additive for low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and is ideal for paints and printing oils within high polar solvent systems. For medium to high polar solvents such as xylene and butyl acetate, it disperses effortlessly without the need for activators. However, in low polar solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil, an activator (95% ethanol at 30-40% weight of the organoclay) must be added to achieve optimal dispersion. This cutting-edge product mirrors the efficiency of Bentone-SD1.

Application:
801-D stands out as a versatile, dispersible broad-spectrum rheological additive. It finds extensive use in antiseptic paints, printing oils, marine paints, industrial decorative coatings, automotive primers, and sealing materials.

Usage:
Incorporate the 801-D rheological additive directly during the grinding phase of product formulation. Under the mechanical action of grinding (or whipping), it swiftly disperses and activates. The typical procedure includes:
1. Add resin/solvent
2. Introduce 801-D additive and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes
3. For low polar solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil, include a polar activator (e.g., 95% ethanol) at 30-40% of organoclay weight and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium to high polar solvents such as xylene or xylene-butyl acetate, no activator is needed.
4. Add wetting agent and pigment, then grind and disperse (via whipping, ball-milling, or sanding) to achieve desired fineness.
5. Introduce other formula ingredients and continue dispersing until homogeneous.

Optimal Dosage
The dosage of 801-D rheological additive in paint formulations is tailored to the desired thickening effect, rheological properties, and pigment suspension requirements. The typical usage ranges from 0.5% to 1.5% of the total paint volume. Generally, it can be calibrated based on the standard organoclay dosage for enhanced performance, often requiring less than traditional organoclays.
