Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is an advanced, easily dispersible, and self-activating organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. Designed for use in low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, and ketones, as well as in various high-polarity solvent systems such as paint and printing oil, it offers exceptional performance. In medium to high-polarity solvents like xylene, xylene esters (for example, butyl acetate), and xylene ketones (such as cyclohexanone), 801-D disperses effortlessly without the need for an activator. However, in low-polarity solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons, an activator (95% ethanol, 30-40% of the organoclay's weight) is required for dispersion. This product is comparable to Bentone-SD1, offering similar high-quality rheological control.
Application:
801-D is a versatile, dispersible rheological additive suited for a wide range of applications. It excels in antiseptic paint, printing oil, boat paint, industrial decorative paint, car primer coats, and sealing materials.
Usage:
The 801-D rheological additive should be integrated directly during the grinding process. Under the cutting power of grinding or whipping, it disperses and activates fully. Follow these steps for optimal use:
1. Add resin/solvent.
2. Introduce the 801-D additive, then whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
3. For low-polar solvents with 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbons, add a polar activator (such as 95% ethanol) at 30-40% of the organoclay's weight, and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium to high-polar solvents like xylene, xylene-butyl acetate, the 801-D can self-activate without an activator.
4. Add a wetting agent and pigment, then grind and disperse using whipping, ball-milling, or sanding until the desired fineness is achieved.
5. Add other materials in the ingredient list and continue to disperse until a uniform mixture is obtained.
Dosage
The dosage of 801-D rheological additive in paint depends on the required thickening effect, desired rheological performance, and the degree of pigment precipitation. Typically, the dosage ranges from 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. This can be adjusted based on previous usages of standard organoclay, as 801-D generally requires a lesser amount.
