Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is an exceptional, dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. Specially engineered for low-to-medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, paints, and printing oils in high polar solvent systems, this additive ensures superior rheological control. In medium-to-high polar solvent systems such as xylene, xylene esters (e.g., butyl acetate), and xylene ketones (e.g., cyclohexanone), the 801-D disperses effortlessly without an activator. However, in low polar solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons, an activator (95% ethanol, at 30-40% weight of the organoclay) is recommended for optimal dispersion. This premium product is comparable to Bentone-SD1, elevating the standards of rheological additives.
Application:
The versatile 801-D rheological additive is ideal for a wide range of applications, including antiseptic paints, printing oils, boat paints, industrial decorative paints, car primer coats, and sealing materials. Its broad-spectrum utility ensures enhanced performance across various industrial uses.
Usage:
Incorporating the 801-D rheological additive into your product is a simple and efficient process. During the grinding phase, simply add the 801-D and under the intense cutting power of grinding (or whipping), it will disperse and activate completely. Follow these steps for optimal results:
1. Add resin/solvent.
2. Introduce the 801-D additive and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
3. If using a low polar solvent with 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbon, add a polar activator (such as 95% ethanol) at 30-40% weight of the organoclay, then whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. If using a medium-high polar solvent system with xylene, xylene-butyl acetate, the additive can self-activate without an activator.
4. Add a wetting agent and pigment, then grind and disperse using methods like whipping, ball-milling, or sanding to achieve the desired fineness.
5. Integrate other materials into the mixture and continue to disperse until the product is even.
Dosage
The recommended dosage of the 801-D rheological additive in paint formulations is dictated by the desired thickening effect, rheological performance, and the degree of pigment precipitation. Generally, the additive is used in a range of 0.5-1.5% of the paint's total volume. Typically, its usage is less compared to common organoclay additives, providing a more efficient solution.
