Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is a versatile, dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. This sophisticated additive excels in low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, paints, and printing oils within high-polar solvent systems. Notably, in medium-high polar solvent systems like xylene and butyl acetate, it activates and disperses effortlessly without additional activators. For low-polar solvents such as 200# solvent oil and white oil, it requires a polar activator (95% ethanol, 30-40% of the organoclay weight). The 801-D matches the performance of Bentone-SD1, ensuring superior rheological properties.
Application:
The 801-D is a broad-spectrum, high-performing rheological additive ideal for antiseptic paints, printing oils, boat paints, industrial decorative paints, car primer coats, and sealing materials. Its versatility makes it indispensable across various high-demand applications.
Usage:
Integrate the 801-D rheological additive directly during the grinding phase of product formulation. Under the cutting power of grinding or whipping, it disperses and activates fully. Standard usage includes:
Add resin/solvent
Incorporate 801-D additive, whipping at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
For low-polar solvents, add a polar activator (like 95% ethanol) constituting 30-40% of the organoclay weight, and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium to high polar solvent systems with xylene and xylene-butyl acetate, self-activation occurs without the need for an activator.
Add wetting agents and pigments, then grind and disperse (via whipping, ball-milling, or sanding) to achieve the desired fineness.
Add remaining ingredients into the mixture, and continue dispersing until uniform.
Dosage
The dosage of the 801-D rheological additive in paints depends on the required thickening effect, rheological performance, and pigment precipitation levels. Typically, the usage ranges from 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume, often requiring lower quantities compared to standard organoclays.
