Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is an advanced, dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It excels as a rheological additive for low-medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and paints. Specifically designed for high-polarity solvent systems, such as xylene, butyl acetate, and cyclohexanone, 801-D disperses effortlessly without the need for an activator. In low-polarity solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbon, an activator (e.g., 95% ethanol) must be added (30-40% of the organoclay's weight) to enhance dispersion. This product is comparable to Bentone-SD1, making it a versatile choice for various applications.
Application:
801-D is a versatile, broad-spectrum rheological additive ideal for antiseptic paints, printing oils, boat paints, industrial decorative paints, car primers, and sealing materials.
Usage:
During the grinding phase of product production, 801-D rheological additive should be added directly. Under the mechanical action of grinding (or whipping), it will fully disperse and activate, ensuring optimal pigment dispersion. The recommended steps are as follows:
1. Add resin/solvent.
2. Introduce the 801-D additive, and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
3. For low-polarity solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbons, add a polar activator (e.g., 95% ethanol) constituting 30-40% of the organoclay's weight, and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. In medium-high polarity solvents such as xylene or xylene-butyl acetate, the additive self-activates without an activator.
4. Add a wetting agent and pigment; grind and disperse using whipping, ball-milling, or sanding to achieve the desired fineness.
5. Introduce other materials as per the formulation and continue dispersing to ensure a uniform mixture.
Dosage
The dosage of 801-D in paint formulations depends on the required thickening effect, rheological performance, and pigment stabilization needs. Typically, the usage ranges from 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. It can be adjusted based on the standard organoclay dosage, often requiring less quantity than conventional organoclays.
