Introduction:
801-D rheological additive is a kind of dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It serves as the rheological additive for low-medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and in paints and printing oils within high polar solvent systems. In medium-high polar solvents like xylene, xylene esters (e.g., butyl acetate), and xylene ketones (e.g., cyclohexanone), it disperses itself without an activator. In contrast, low polar solvents such as 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons require an activator (e.g., 95% ethanol at 30-40% of the organoclay's weight) for dispersion. This product parallels Bentone-SD1 in functionality.
Application:
801-D is a versatile, dispersible rheological additive, ideal for antiseptic paints, printing oils, marine paints, industrial decorative paints, automotive primer coats, and sealing materials.
Usage:
Integrate 801-D rheological additive directly during the grinding process. Under the cutting power of grinding or whipping to disperse the pigment, 801-D will fully disperse and activate. Typical usage steps are outlined below:
1. Add resin/solvent
2. Incorporate 801-D additive, whipping at high speed for 10-20 minutes
3. For low polar solvents with 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbons, add a polar activator (e.g., 95% ethanol at 30-40% of organoclay weight) and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium-high polar solvent systems like xylene, xylene-butyl acetate, it disperses itself without an activator.
4. Add wetting agent and pigment, then grind and disperse (whipping, ball-milling, sanding) to achieve the desired fineness.
5. Incorporate other ingredients and continue dispersing until evenly mixed.
Dosage
The dosage of 801-D rheological additive in paint depends on the required thickening effect, rheological performance requirements, and the degree of pigment precipitation. The typical dosage range is 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. Generally, its usage is calibrated against common organoclays and is often lower in amount.
