Product Description

Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is a cutting-edge, dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. This advanced additive excels in low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, and ketones, particularly shining in paints and printing oils within high-polar solvent systems. Notably, in medium-high polar solvents like xylene, butyl acetate, and cyclohexanone, 801-D disperses effortlessly without an activator. However, when working with low-polar solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons, an activator (95% ethanol, 30-40% by weight of the organoclay) is recommended to aid dispersion. Comparable to Bentone-SD1, this product sets a new standard in rheological additives.

Application:
801-D is a versatile and dispersible broad-spectrum rheological additive, perfect for antiseptic paints, printing oils, marine coatings, industrial decorative paints, automotive primer coatings, and sealing materials.

Usage:
The 801-D rheological additive integrates seamlessly during the grinding phase of product manufacturing. Under the cutting forces of grinding or whipping, 801-D activates fully, facilitating complete pigment dispersion. Follow these steps for optimal results:
1. Add resin/solvent.
2. Introduce the 801-D additive and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
3. For low-polar solvents with 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbons, add a polar activator (such as 95% ethanol) at 30-40% of the organoclay weight and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium-high polar solvents with xylene or xylene-butyl acetate, 801-D disperses spontaneously without an activator.
4. Add wetting agent and pigment; grind and disperse (through whipping, ball-milling, or sanding) to the desired fineness.
5. Introduce additional ingredients and continue dispersing until the mixture is uniform.

Dosage
The dosage of 801-D rheological additive in paint formulations depends on the required thickening effect, desired rheological properties, and the level of pigment precipitation. The standard dosage ranges from 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. It is advisable to optimize the dosage based on prior usage of common organoclay, although 801-D generally requires a lesser amount for similar efficacy.
