Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is an advanced, dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It is designed specifically for low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, and ketones, as well as for paints and printing oils in high-polar solvent systems. In medium-high polar solvent systems such as xylene, xylene-esters (like butyl acetate), and xylene-ketones (like cyclohexanone), it can self-activate without the need for an activator. In low-polar solvents containing 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol), an activator (95% ethanol, at 30-40% of the organoclay's weight) is needed for efficient dispersion. This product is comparable to Bentone-SD1, offering superior performance and ease of use.
Application:
The versatile 801-D rheological additive is ideal for a wide range of applications, including antiseptic paint, printing oil, boat paint, industrial decorative paint, car primer coat, and sealing materials. Its broad-spectrum capabilities make it a go-to choice for diverse industrial needs.
Usage:
During the production process, add the 801-D rheological additive directly into the grinding phase. Under the mechanical action of grinding or whipping, it will disperse and activate completely. Here are the typical steps for its usage:
1. Add resin/solvent
2. Introduce the 801-D additive and mix at high speed for 10-20 minutes
3. If using a low-polar solvent with 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbon, add a polar activator (such as 95% ethanol) at 30-40% of the organoclay's weight and mix at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium-high polar solvent systems like xylene or xylene-butyl acetate, the 801-D can be self-activatedly dispersed without an activator.
4. Add wetting agent and pigment, then grind and disperse using methods such as whipping, ball-milling, or sanding, until the desired fineness is achieved
5. Incorporate other ingredients, continuing to disperse until the mixture is even.
Dosage
The appropriate dosage of the 801-D rheological additive in paint formulations depends on the desired thickening effect, rheological performance requirements, and the degree of pigment precipitation. Typically, the usage range is 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. Generally, it should be adjusted in comparison to the dosage of conventional organoclay, though it often requires a lesser amount.
