Product Description

Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is an advanced dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It is ideal for low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, paints, and printing oils in high polar solvent systems. In medium to high polar solvent systems like xylene, butyl acetate, and cyclohexanone, it can be effortlessly self-activated without needing an activator. However, for low polar solvents such as 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons, an activator (95% ethanol at 30-40% weight of the organoclay) is required for optimal dispersion. Comparable to Bentone-SD1, this product guarantees superior performance.

Application:
The 801-D is a highly versatile rheological additive that is perfectly suited for antiseptic paints, printing oils, boat paints, industrial decorative paints, car primers, and sealing materials.

Usage:
The 801-D rheological additive should be integrated directly during the grinding phase of production. Under the cutting force of grinding or whipping, the additive will fully disperse and activate. The typical usage steps are as follows:
Step 1: Add resin and solvent.
Step 2: Introduce the 801-D additive and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
Step 3: If using a low polar solvent (200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbon), add a polar activator (e.g., 95% ethanol at 30-40% weight of the organoclay) and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium-high polar solvent systems (xylene, xylene-butyl acetate), no activator is needed for self-activation.
Step 4: Add wetting agent and pigment, then grind and disperse (whipping, ball-milling, sanding) to achieve the required fineness.
Step 5: Add the remaining materials and continue dispersing until the mixture is uniform.

Dosage
The dosage of the 801-D rheological additive in paint depends on the desired thickening effect, rheological performance requirements, and the degree of pigment precipitation. The common dosage range is 0.5-1.5% of the paint amount. Typically, the dosage is lower than that of conventional organoclays, and can be adjusted following standard organoclay dosage guidelines.
