Introduction:
The 801-D Rheological Additive is an advanced dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. It stands out as the ideal rheological enhancer for low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, as well as high polar solvent systems used in paint and printing oil formulations. In medium to high polar solvent systems like xylene, butyl acetate, and cyclohexanone, it disperses effortlessly without the need for an activator. For low polar solvents such as 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons, an activator like 95% ethanol (30-40% of the organoclay weight) is required to achieve optimal dispersion. This product is comparable to Bentone-SD1.
Applications:
The versatile 801-D Rheological Additive excels in a broad spectrum of applications, including antiseptic paint, printing oil, boat paint, industrial decorative paint, automobile primer coats, and sealing materials.
Usage Instructions:
Incorporate the 801-D Rheological Additive directly during the grinding phase of production. Under the shear force of grinding or whipping, the additive will thoroughly disperse and activate. Follow these steps for optimal results:
1. Add Resin/Solvent
2. Introduce 801-D Additive, whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes
3. For low polar solvents like 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbons, add a polar activator (e.g., 95% ethanol), at 30-40% organoclay weight, and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium-high polar solvents like xylene and butyl acetate, the additive self-disperses without the need for an activator.
4. Add wetting agents and pigments, then grind and disperse (by whipping, ball-milling, or sanding) to the desired fineness.
5. Add remaining ingredients and continue to disperse until even.
Dosage:
The optimal dosage of 801-D Rheological Additive in paint formulations is dictated by the desired thickening effect, rheological performance, and pigment precipitation control. Typically, it ranges from 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. The dosage can be fine-tuned based on the requirements, often being lower than that of conventional organoclays.
