Introduction:
The 801-D rheological additive is a highly dispersible, self-activated organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. This remarkable additive enhances rheological properties in low-to-medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, ketones, and high-polarity solvents such as xylene and butyl acetate. In high-polar systems like xylene and ester-based solvents, 801-D self-activates and disperses without additional activators. For low-polar solvents, use an activator (95% ethanol at 30-40% of the organoclay's weight) for superior dispersion. This product shares similarities with Bentone-SD1.
Application:
801-D is a versatile, dispersible rheological additive suited for various applications, including antiseptic paints, printing oils, boat paints, industrial decorative paints, car primers, and sealing materials.
Usage:
During the grinding process of product manufacturing, directly add 801-D rheological additive. Under the cutting power of grinding or whipping, the pigment will disperse, fully activating 801-D. Follow these steps for optimal usage:
1. Add resin/solvent.
2. Add 801-D additive and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
3. For low-polar solvents (200# solvent oil, white oil aliphatic hydrocarbon), add a polar activator (e.g., 95% ethanol at 30-40% of organoclay weight), then whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. For medium-high polar solvent systems (xylene, xylene-butyl acetate), 801-D disperses without an activator.
4. Add wetting agent, pigment, and grind (whipping, ball-milling, or sanding) to achieve the required fineness.
5. Continuously add other ingredients and disperse until evenly mixed.
Dosage
The dosage of 801-D rheological additive in paint varies based on needed thickening effects, rheological control requirements, and pigment precipitation levels. Typically, use 0.5-1.5% of the paint amount. This can be fine-tuned based on the common organoclay dosages, though 801-D generally requires less than conventional organoclays.
