Product Description

Introduction:
Our 801-D Rheological Additive stands out as a versatile, self-activating organic ammonium montmorillonite organoclay. Perfect for low to medium aliphatic hydrocarbons, esters, and ketones, this additive revolutionizes paint and printing oil formulations, especially in high-polar solvent systems. In medium-high polar solvents like xylene, butyl acetate, and cyclohexanone, the 801-D disperses effortlessly and activates without an additional activator. However, for low-polar solvents with 200# solvent oil and white oil (mineral alcohol) aliphatic hydrocarbons, an activator (95% ethanol, 30-40% weight of the organoclay) is recommended for optimal dispersion. This exceptional product is comparable to Bentone-SD1.

Application:
801-D is a versatile, dispersible broad-spectrum rheological additive ideal for antiseptic paint, printing oil, marine paints, industrial decorative coatings, automotive primers, and sealing materials.

Usage:
For optimal results, the 801-D rheological additive should be mixed directly during the grinding process. Under the shearing force of grinding or whipping, 801-D disperses and activates completely. The general usage steps are as follows:
Add resin/solvent
Incorporate the 801-D additive and whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes.
For low-polarity solvents with 200# solvent oil and white oil aliphatic hydrocarbons, add a polar activator (such as 95% ethanol) at 30-40% weight of the organoclay. Whip at high speed for 10-20 minutes. In medium-high polar solvent systems like xylene or xylene-butyl acetate, the 801-D disperses and activates without the need for an activator.
Add wetting agent, pigment, grind, and disperse (using whipping, ball-milling, or sanding) to achieve the desired fineness.
Incorporate other ingredients into the mixture and continue dispersing until uniform.

Dosage
The ideal dosage of the 801-D rheological additive in paint formulations depends on the desired thickening effect, rheological performance, and pigment precipitation level. Typically, the dosage ranges from 0.5-1.5% of the total paint volume. Generally, its required amount is less than that of common organoclay, allowing for cost-effective optimization.
